This oval-shaped baroque reliquary has a chased gilded brass mount, richly decorated with pontifical symbols: papal tiara, keys of Saint Peter, censers, draperies and cherubs. The whole is surmounted by a suspension ring.
Description
The front face, protected by glass, contains an authentic relic of Saint Hubert, bishop of Liège, famous patron saint of hunters.
The fragment is mounted on a red fabric background, decorated with gilded filigree, miniature white pearls and a surround of red rhinestones evoking rubies.
The name of the saint is inscribed on a handwritten paper band: “S. Huberti epi.” (meaning Sancti Huberti episcopi – Saint Hubert The central relic a bone fragment (first class relic ex ossibus – from the body of the saint).
It is attached by two gilded wires and surrounded by a radiant filigree decoration, in a style very typical of 18th century mounts.
