Print, woodblock print "Yagasuri" numbered 54/200 by Takasawa Keiichi (1914-1984). 51.2 x 41.6 cm unframed 62 x 51.5 cm framed Takasawa Keiichi was born in Gunma Prefecture in 1914. In 1936, Takasawa withdrew from Nihon University of Technology and went to study with various artists including Tsuguharu Fujita. Fujita strongly influenced his work. In 1937 he joined the army's journalism department in Shanghai as a reporter. In 1939 he won the Asahi Prize for one of his paintings. After the war, Takasawa began to make illustrations for magazines. At the same time, he made a series of woodblock prints with Kato hanga kenkyu sho and Yuyudo. He was the author of A Pictorial Story of the Kimono (1947), and Women of Japan (1955). From 1975 to 1982, he illustrated the covers of the famous Japanese women's magazine Fujin Koron. Takasawa then became a very famous artist in Japan. In 1974 and 1977, he held major exhibitions in Paris. In 1977, a catalogue raisonné of his paintings, Takasawa Keiichi ga shu, was published. Today, collectors of Keiichi Takasawa's works are found internationally.
