Oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right: "Sicardi 1816 à... 72" (at 72 years old): Portrait of a senior officer of the regiment of the hundred Swiss of the Maison du Roi (major or captain), in blue coat with red piping, gold buttons stamped with a grenade, red collar embroidered in gold braid with palm trees and natural lilies, edged with a rod decorated with a row of pearls, lieutenant-colonel epaulettes in gold braid, fringes with large twists, silver escutcheons embroidered with a flaming grenade; it is decorated with the knight's cross of the order of the Legion of Honor and the Lily of the model known as the "King's bodyguards"; beautiful leafy, gilded frame; 56 x 46.5 cm. Restoration period. Good condition. SICARD Louis Marie, known as SICARDI, born in Avignon on August 2, 1743 + in Paris on July 18, 1825. Painter and miniaturist, he obtained commissions from the royal family, around 1772 and became painter of the Maison du Roi, in 1779; he exhibited at the Paris Salon, in 1791. He is among the ten best painters on the list drawn up on 23 Fructidor year VIII by the Minister of the Interior, at the request of the First Consul. In 1816, SICARDI is "portrait painter" at 55 rue Saint-André des Arts. Under the Restoration, he was named knight of the Legion of Honor, on September 11, 1814.
