Framed oil on canvas representing two parakeets in a cage on a floral wallpaper background. Signed lower left. Henri Hagen, pseudonym of Heinz Grieffenhagen, German Jewish painter (1899-1944). He left Berlin in 1933 and settled in Paris where he frequented the artistic circles of Montparnasse. He paints landscapes, portraits, Parisian genre scenes as well as restaurant and store decors. Arrested in Lourdes in 1943, he was deported to a camp in Lithuania where he died in 1944. The Shoah Memorial preserves around a hundred of his works.
