These carafes contained appetizing or healing drinks such as iskenjebi or cherbet, drinks that are an integral part of Azerbaijani culinary art.
Heavily decorated with friezes of stylized flowers in a small diamond, lying mandorlas, twelve large hemmed gadroons on the body.
A large bronze esse handle, strongly held by a hammered fixing.
The tip of the pouring spout delicately hammered.
The stylized floral motif gained great popularity under the Sasanian dynasty and later under the Safavid dynasty of Persia (1501-1736).
It was a major textile motif in Iran during the Kajar and Pahlavi dynasties in a more elaborate way. At that time, these designs were used to decorate royal regalia, crowns and court clothing, as well as textiles used by the general population.
The fineness of the carvings shows the dexterity of the Persian engravers even on a good quality ethnic object of rural origin.
These wonderful tinned coppers were, under the Safavid and Kadjar dynasties, an eminent alternative to silver and they enjoyed the same status. These objects certainly lived on as centerpieces of Persian homes.
A magnificent artifact of Persian art, our highly crafted model can only become a centerpiece of a beautiful collection.
Very good patina overall.
