This oil on panel is a work from the workshop of Frans Francken the Younger, sometimes also called Frans Francken II or Frenchified as François Francken the Younger, born in Antwerp in 1581 where he died on May 6, 1642. He is a Flemish painter of the Spanish Netherlands. The work measures 44cm by 37cm and its real tortoise shell frame measures 57cm by 50cm. Sold with a certificate of authenticity This painting represents Christ with outrages also called “Ecce homo”. This Latin expression means “here is the man”. This is the expression given to Pontius Pilate, Roman governor of Judea, in the Vulgate translation of the Gospel according to John (19:5) when in Jerusalem, he presented to the crowd Jesus of Nazareth coming out of the courtroom, after the flogging.
