Rare orrery planetarium signed "Henri Robert Paris". complete and in good condition with rotating globe by moving the horizontal arm.
Henry (or Henri) Robert, renowned French watchmaker (1795-1874), had studied under both Abraham-Louis Breguet and Frédérique Louis Perrelet, before opening his own business in Rue de Valois (Palais-Royal) in 1832.
In 1834 he moved to Rue du Coq and participated, a few years later, in the 1839 Universal Exhibition in Paris. In 1845 he moved again, to Rue Richelieu, becoming Horloger de la Marine and Knight of the Legion of Honor in the meantime. In the following years he moved twice more, first to Rue Chabanais (1860) and then to Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in 1867, when he was joined in the business by his son, also named Henri. Robert is the author of several treatises on horology, such as the Etudes sur diverses questions d'horlogerie of 1852, and of several articles in the Encyclopédie moderni.
