Tilting tripod pedestal table
Solid mahogany
Dimensions : H. 67 ; D. 78 (cm.)
France, late 18th century

A tripod pedestal table supporting a cylindrical shaft decorated with rings. Circular top with moulded lip. Iron lock system.

A fine piece of English-inspired furniture. This is an interesting example of "Anglomania" at the end of the 18th century: it is either an imported piece or a reworking carried out in France. The most famous cabinetmaker to produce this type of pedestal table was Joseph Gengenbach, known as Canabas.

Anglomania
- so called by its detractors - initially manifested itself in continental Europe in the aftermath of the Seven Years' War, for the customs (clubs and horse races) in which the Count of Artois took great interest, the fashions in dress (the frock coat) and food (punch), and the decorative arts (the "English gardens") English or British.

Condition report:
Excellent condition, polished-waxed finish, restored by our workshop. the top is without accident or crack.
