Object description :

"La Ruade - Auguste Vimar 1851 - 1916"
Period 1906 for the model chef School Provençal school of animal drawing and painting Dimensions Height: approx. 32 cm Length of the terrace: 41.5 cm Width of the terrace: 18 cm Signature Signed on the motif: A. Vimar On the edge of the terrace at the level of the signature there is the inscription MUSY-TORINO. In 1707, the Musy jewelry store was founded in Turin, Italy, and over the years and centuries became one of the most prestigious in Europe. The MUSY family makes jewels, collects works of art... and sometimes parts with them. Signature of the founder on the short side of the terrace: SIOT-PARIS As well as the number Y593 Rare bronze proof with medal-winning patina, resting on a rectangular terrace. The bronze is in good condition. Note, however, a fragility at the level of the mare's two pasterns, due to the fact that the entire weight of the horse and one of the dogs rests solely on these two points. The bronze is complete.

Auguste VIMAR, unpretentious, placid. A true scholar, of fine intelligence, he overflows with humor which shines through in both his drawings and his sculptures. Look at the Ruade! Who would have thought of carving out such a funny and burlesque scene? He draws for Le Figaro Illustré, but also for Mon Journal, Rire, Soleil du Dimanche, all weekly magazines with national success! He is not satisfied with that. For the biggest Parisian publishers, Delagrave, Mame, Laurens, Fleury, he illustrated 22 albums for children. Sometimes he even tries his hand at pen and pencils, as with Boy by Marius Bouillabès, or his funny Poule à Poil, which are real publishing successes. With a clean and incisive line he draws all kinds of posters, and creates, in addition to his paintings, delicious chalkboards for the youngest. Always in a good mood, gifted with a sparkling verve highlighted by an accent that sings of the sun and the cicadas, Auguste never got the big head, which his Parisian success could nevertheless have given him! Modest and unpretentious, he moves peacefully through life, and loves nothing more than working in the silence of his workshop, surrounded by his cats and dogs.

It was at the turn of the last century, when he was at the height of his art, his friend Jean-Léon GÉRÔME, orientalist painter and sculptor. In 1901, he presented us with a twisting philosopher, in the form of a donkey layer ! In 1902, he carved an escaped horse, then a braying donkey, a paperweight to which he gave the shape of his favorite dogs, a trotting horse, a few crazy little statuettes and, in 1906, this incredible Ruade, a real technical prowess for both the sculptor and the founder! But the reputation of the SIOT-DECAUVILLE house, which is second to none, has acquitted itself perfectly. Would it surprise you if I told you that his all-too-rare bronzes reveal strength and rare talent? And as he was witty to the very end, his sculptures met with the same success as his illustrations!
