Articulated Workshop Model, Life-size, Early 19th Century flag

Object description :

"Articulated Workshop Model, Life-size, Early 19th Century"
Articulated workshop mannequin, life size, remains of polychromy on the face, his left hand redone identically, posterior base.

This model comes from a French manufacture, metal label placed on the back of the mannequin.

This stamp, consisting of a palette with the text «BERVILLE A PARIS», is the brand of the house Berville, manufacturer and merchant of colors, framer, stationer, restorer and merchant of paintings and drawings. This family business was founded in 1833 by the Berville family (also known as Sifflet de Berville). It was located in 1834 at 29, rue de la Chaussée-d ‘Antin, in Paris, then in 1843 at 7, rue de Cléry, and in 1869 at 25, rue de la Chaussée-d’’Antin. The company was in turn managed by Jules Berville then by Léon Berville (probably from 1870), and finally by Paul Berville, probably from 1896.
The Maison Berville label is much later than our model. They were so expensive to produce that the houses of color reused them, the painters rented them, or bought them with others.
For the record, Vincent Van Gogh bought this famous address at his time, would they have met there?
