Magnificent representation of a river scene made up of various small boats including sailboats, sailing on the Seine probably around the city of Rouen where we can see the cathedral in the background to the left, a few houses to the right, all against the backdrop of a sunset of sunlight illuminating the entire landscape. The colors are warm, generous, luminous, absolutely splendid. The mastery of the impressionist style which characterizes the artist so well, is in full swing more than ever for our greatest happiness. Superb framing. Gorgeous !

PROVENANCE : Recognized french public auction house (from private collection).

Painting : 2 small dirt at top left, some slight age wear marks and tiny holes at certain edges (at the edge of the Marie-Louise) otherwise in perfect condition.
Frame : Gilded, molded and carved frame, with some slight lacks to gilt and small age wear marks otherwise in excellent condition.

Paul FLAUBERT was a fan of scenes with figures, hunting scenes, landscapes, landscapes with figures, winterscapes, urban landscapes and waterscapes. His style is neatly influenced by the impressionist movement that we find everywhere in his work and in which he has excelled throughout his career. The simultaneous use of the 2 styles, one by a multitude of touches in the execution of the "background" of his works and the other in a "smoothed" style in order to better bring out the figures or the subjects he wanted to put forward, testifies to this.
A tremendous and subtle painter, increasingly present on the World Art Market and in multiple collections and whose progress continues to prove (especially in the UK and in the USA).
