"Extraordinary Obruk - Prayer Kilim, 140 X 197 Cm, Woven Wool Late 19th Century Early 20th Century"
Extremely rare Obruk prayer rug, known as Obruk - Kilim from the Konya region, knotted by the women of a group of the Yuruk tribe settled in Turkey. These rugs are little known, often confused because of their colors, approaching Kir-sehir and Moudjour for knotted rugs ¨
For kilims the colors are different with a green niche. The technique adopts the slit technique as on the Senneh kilims.
The warp is wool. The weft-pattern is also in wool Carpets from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
Five rings are formerly sewn to the base of the carpet to put it on the wall. Note the calligraphy inscribed in the three stars above the tree of life.
The double border always includes enigmatic elements, which only these populations know, accompanied by numerous stylized flowers placed in the border as well as stars of Medes, eight-pointed stars symbolizing King Solomon's ring.
The warm hues beautifully dress this rarest piece.
The wool is fluid, making soft carpets, the very good quality wool comes from the sheep breeding of these tribes.
If ancient pieces from Asia Minor have been preserved for us in such remarkable condition, it is no doubt thanks to the quality of the wools or silks used, and their dense weaving, but also because they have no been held only by pious hands, as those who tied them were pious.
These rooms were only used for prayer and were put away afterwards.
Our model with a beautiful green niche is in very good condition, typical of this very rare production, the fringes and edges in superb condition.
Obruk, a small village in Turkey is known for its very original rugs and kilims qualified as extraordinary. .
Dimensions: width: 140 cm (55") x length: 197 cm (77") with the fringes - without the fringes 182 cm - (71")
This carpet can be used as a decorative element on the ground, but at the sight of its great beauty, it can also be placed as a decoration on a wall.
