18th Century Dutch School - A Turkish Ship In Front Of A Fortress On An Island flag

Object description :

"18th Century Dutch School - A Turkish Ship In Front Of A Fortress On An Island"
Dutch school of the 18th century Oil on canvas 40 x 27 cm (54 x 41 cm with the frame) Beautiful old frame from the Empire period The many small Turkish characters painted with bright colors and the beautiful colors with which their costumes are painted as well as the Turkish ship, with these blues and reds unmistakably show a 17th or 18th century work. This small painting is particularly reminiscent of the works of the 17th century Dutch painter Peter Van de Velde the Younger. This one is known for its war scenes with its Turkish ships besieging a fort on an island, the island of Souda in Crete. Perhaps this is a studio work, a copy in a smaller format of a composition by this painter.
