Baluch carpet with rare animal decoration, in fine hand-knotted wool, natural colors, from the middle of the 20th century, around 1950-1960 in very good condition, with very slight signs of wear.
These rugs (Baloutches - Beloutches - Balouchi) are knotted and woven by nomadic Baloutch tribes, in Iran, Afghanistan, Russia and Central Asia, in sheep's wool but also a lot with ecru camel wool.
These rugs can be dark and dull, red, wine-colored, wine-colored, earthy, but also very light, camel-colored.
The decoration is geometric, taking motifs from the decorations of the Caucasus but also from ancient Persia.
The most sought-after Baluchis are the animal rugs and prayer rugs with a niche, the mihrab, rectangular specific to this tribe, (the niche, indicates the Quibla, the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca).
## Today, we are led to think that Beluch or Baluch rugs originate from Beluchistan.
This is by no means the case, they are knotted further north, in Khorassan, in Iran, on the Russo-Iranian border, they are given, moreover, for the most beautiful models the name of Mecched, capital of the Khorassan.
These are nomadic rugs, so the sizes are quite small, the warps and wefts until recently were always in wool (before 1940), but the use of cotton supplanted wool, the knot used remains the Persian knot .
The large number of patterns used shows the Persian influence, and the geometric characters link them to the family of Central Asian carpets, which is by no means the case.
The interior decoration often reveals a great geometric elaboration, in all symbolism and symmetry.
## Our model presents many animals, blue peacocks, horses, ducks, hens, camels, .... the animals that these populations live alongside.
The brown designs represent pregnant women, the fulfillment of life, a motif found on certain nomadic pieces from Central Asia and on certain carpets from Morocco.
At the bottom of the carpet, two vases give birth to trees of life, a widespread motif.
The drawing is a little simple, almost childish, even modern, it has a certain magic in the shapes and colors.
The sumptuous border of the most beautiful effect, in the style of Afghan and Central Asian carpets; Bechir, with seven wide stripes and eight thin stripes, has flowered fretwork and friezes resembling the Caucasian border of the running dog.
Proof that carpet art is a huge melting pot, a mixture of many influences from all over the Orient.
This rug has been professionally and environmentally cleaned.
