"William And Mary Chest, XVIIth Century"
Rare English William and Mary style chest attributed to the workshop of Richard Pigg Junior.Richard Pigg Junior was maker of chests for Charles II's Great Wardrobe "trunk maker to the Great Wardrobe" until his death in 1706 when he was succeeded by William Johnson. This chest with an oak core covered in leather and studded with brass is a very fine example of the productions of this workshop.
The style indicates a strong influence from the Indies while the shape is close to the Flemish chests of this period. England, late 17th century.
