Gilbert Albert a Swiss art jeweler born in Geneva on September 30, 1930 and died on October 1, 2019.
Biography
Gilbert Albert studied jewelry from 1945 at the School of Industrial Arts. He initially turned to watch design. Between 1955 and 1962, he became the foreman of the Maison Pateck Philippe for which he designed the design of “asymmetrical watches” which have since become collector's items. In 1958, he signed with watch designer Louis Cottier a revolutionary concept of a prototype watch with linear indication, The Cobra.
The sculptor jeweler
Eventually caught up in his taste for natural and unusual materials, Gilbert Albert turned definitively to jewelery and opened his first workshop in 1962 before establishing his gallery and workshops in 1973 on rue de la Corraterie in Geneva.
He is the most awarded jeweler at the Diamonds International Awards, for which he has received the Oscar ten times. Known for his compositions that are both baroque and scholarly, he does not hesitate to use materials usually ignored by classical jewelry (scarabs, dinosaur bones, meteorites)4. He is also known for his "ready-made" jewellery, works close to the spirit of Marcel Duchamp and to which he devotes a book, Coups de cœur - coups de talons, published in 1996.
 The company
In 1999, Gilbert Albert founded the Geneva Cabinotiers museum in homage to Genevan watchmakers. In 2007, the Gilbert Albert boutique opened in Dubai in association with the 32Design group.
