Before 1923 Ezine was called Avunya, carpets knotted before this date are always referred to by the old name, and the characteristics of these carpets are specific to this place.
Ezine is a town and district of Çanakkale Province in the Marmara Region of Turkey.
These old pieces from Turkey were knotted in austere, often mountainous but above all harsh regions.
The shape of the niche surrounded by hooks, the stylized flowers are elements of happiness and peace, and the branches inside the niche symbolize trees of life.
These prayer rugs are generally found in good condition because they have always been piously kept in families or owners who love this kind.
It is and will be more and more difficult to find original quality pieces, real artefacts, indeed either families keep them or collectors jealously guard them.
This piece is in its state of discovery, my passion for old carpets from Turkey prevents me from inflicting a restoration on them.
This rug is now more intended to be placed on a wall and to be admired like a painting than to be on the floor.
This piece is in beautiful condition for its great age, and has been professionally and environmentally cleaned.
