Joseph Lailhaca (1876-1920) “Pastoral idyll”, oil on canvas 46 X 55.5 cm, mounted in a very beautiful Parnassian frame 76 X 84 cm. The Bordeaux artist, who died too prematurely, nevertheless left us many Aquitaine landscapes, from the Basin to the Basque Country and, prefiguring the Bordeaux Neoclassical School on which he had a decisive influence, these delightful Arcadian landscapes, inhabited by shepherds or naiads . In an Arcadian landscape where a river flows from the distant mountains, a couple rests in the meadows strewn with daisies, while a herdsman leads his animals to the river to drink there… Circa 1910/12.
