Born on October 17, 1929 in Gouy-sous-bellone, Maurice LEMAÎTRE is a painter belonging to the Post-Impressionist movement. His first exhibition in his village hall was in 1945 when he was not yet 16 years old. Autodidact of great talent, he learned his art by meeting local artists and by studying and working the methods and techniques of his elders like Delacroix, Monet, Renoir, Manet or Guillaumin but also Van Gogh, Corot, Courbet...
Painter of landscapes in France, he set up his easel in many regions and most often where the Impressionists had preceded him : in Seine-et-Marne, Moret-sur-Loing, Auvers-sur-Oise, in Brittany and Normandy, in Vendée, in the Brière, in the Lot, in North or even in Pas-de-Calais.
He exhibits regularly in Paris, at the Salons of French Artists of which he is a member, at the Salon of Independent Artists and at Barbizon, Melun, Versailles, Nogent, Douai, Le Touquet, etc...
His first solo exhibitions date from the years 1963-1966, notably at the Ror-Volmar and Welter Galleries in Paris. In 1978, he exhibited at the "Galerie des Orfèvres" (Paris) and will continue, every 2 years, a personal exhibition at the "Galerie Triade" (Barbizon).
He also exhibited for 20 years at the Art-Mel Gallery in Faubourg-Saint-Honoré in Paris.
Maurice LEMAÎTRE has been invited to exhibit in the United States, in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Detroit, in Spain, in Geneva, in Tokyo as well as in Russia, at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersbourg.
