This beautiful, beautifully framed Pastel possibly represents Marie Antoinette in a Louis XV style dress (see the portraits of Madame du Barry…). The scene would therefore be around 1774, the date of the death of Louis XV, Marie Antoinette would therefore be 19 years old. It's not impossible although I think she's a bit older on this pastel. I therefore think that it is quite possible that this portrait was made postmortem and that the artist preferred to represent her in Louis XV fashion rather than a Louis XVI dress.
