"John Wainwright - Still Life With Dead Game In A Landscape"
John WAINWRIGHT (Active in the 1860s) Oil on mahogany panel Signed lower right "JW" 34 x 48 cm (54 x 68 cm with the frame) Inscriptions on the back "John Wainwright / Painter of flowers Fruit Dead game / Ducks Plovers Partridge Bulfinch » Very beautiful 19th century decorated frame The English painter John Wainwright enjoyed success in the 1860s by exhibiting paintings of flowers and still lifes of game at the Royal Society of British Artists in Suffolk Street and at the British Institute and hunting trophies, very decorative, in the style of the old Dutch masters with always very beautiful colors. Our painting is a fine example of the art of still life in England during the Victorian era. Wainwright painted here a still life of game, more precisely, as the title on the back indicates, "ducks, plovers, partridges and bullfinches". A very beautiful original frame highlights the painting.
