Beautiful work, with strong contrast, by the painter Gustave Vidal which represents a view from a cliff animated by a shepherd and his flock, certainly in Cap Corse where the artist liked to paint.
The artist was able to perfectly transcribe the different nuances of the end of the day on the Mediterranean Sea.

We can compare our work with a gouache by the artist representing the same view with the shepherd and his flock on the cliff.

Student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Avignon under the direction of the painter Pierre Grivolas who will encourage his students, including Gustave Vidal, to paint outdoors. He will be under the influence of the new school of Avignon and the abstract painters. His own style combines knife technique and pictorial stylization.
He won many awards from his beginnings, and exhibited around the world.

Nb: Some cracks and an old restoration is visible on the back.

Dimensions: 73 x 92 cm without frame and 85 x 104 cm with its original gilded wooden frame.
