Circa 1900 France - Tassinari & Chatel Beautiful silk Brocatelle wall panel from the Art Nouveau period by the famous painter and decorator Adrien Karbowsky, produced by Maison Tassinari & Chatel. Graphic composition with a flowered basket of poppies and laurel wreaths in shades of burgundy, burgundy and bronze yellow. Full selvage panel framed by original Jacquart woven braid sewn on all four sides. Skillful bumpy weave with twill background and raised damask design. Very slight color variations of the original weaving which give all the charm to this piece with subtle tones. Piece cleaned with very slight patina on the dents. Otherwise stable condition, no hole. Good general condition of color and conservation. References: reproduced in the catalog of the Exhibition of Modern Silk Furnishings, Lyon Weaving School, 1934. Dimensions: height 184 cm, width 68 cm. Adrien Karbowsky (1855-1945), from the Puvis de Chavannes school, was a famous Art Nouveau painter and decorator, known for his wall frescoes and tapestries, particularly those in the Marsan pavilion at the Louvre. He designed for the Beauvais and Gobelins factories and participated in the decoration of the Villa Kérylos in Beaulieu sur mer. He is known to excel in particular in the representation of flowers.
