Second Half of the 19th century France Sublime Chalice in solid silver, Totally chiseled with stylized vegetable motif decoration framing religious medallions. Hallmark Minerva (1st title), and silversmith's mark Favier frères. 3 chiseled medallions on the bowl 3 scenes in feet (the nativity, the crucifixion, Jesus Christ is relieved from his cross) Goldsmith hallmark: André Favier and successors - Lyon Symbol: a sun between two letters F The name Favier knows a story long and loaded which began around 1824 and ended in 1976. The Favier goldsmiths were famous manufacturers of ecclesiastical works in silver such as chalices, ciboria, monstrances, patenes, cruets and trays. Their works can be found in several cathedral treasures. At least 179 works are listed to date and protected as historical monuments in the department of Ariège. This chalice is in good condition and is of remarkable quality. A note: tiny slight wear of vermeil, micro-scratches and wear of time.
