"Charles Vessière Nancy, Glass Paste Toilet Set, Art Nouveau"
Charming set of toiletries, signed Charles Vessière, from the Art Nouveau period particularly flourishing in the Ecole de Nancy. The Vessière brothers, Charles and Justin, opened their glass workshop and showroom in 1901 in Nancy.The service is made of opalescent glass paste with a painted decoration of thistles whose shades of garnet and brown change with the light. The thistle, emblem of Lorraine, appears on the coat of arms of the city of Nancy with the motto "Qui s'y frotte, s'y pique".
The set is composed of the following pieces:
- 3 bottles with faceted spherical caps, in good condition of use: dimensions of the largest (height 17.5 cm, diameter 6.5 cm), the intermediate (height 15 cm, diameter 5.5 cm), and the small (height 12.5 cm, diameter 4.5 cm) ;
- 1 vaporizer, in good condition but without its bulb: dimensions (height 20.5 cm, diameter 5.5 cm) ;
- 1 oval cup, with some chips on the edges: dimensions (length 24 cm, width 8 cm, height 3.5 cm) ;
- 1 pot, without its lid and with a crack at the base: dimensions (height 8 cm and diameter 8 cm).
