HURARD Joseph (1887-1956)"Fishermen in Brescon, Martigues"
Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right,
Beautiful work by the Avignon painter Joseph Hurard which represents a view from Bescon to Martigues animated by fishermen in their boats. The artist was able to transcribe the sunny atmosphere of a summer day by using bright colors and playing on contrasts.
A pupil of Pierre Grivolas and Charles Vionnet in Avignon, Joseph Hurard exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1908 to 1914 many landscapes, notably of Avignon and Villeneuve-les-Avignon. He joined the Group of Thirteen founded by Clément Brun.
After the First World War, he exhibited in galleries in Marseille.
In 1932, he settled in Martigues, a site he has been painting since 1913.
Dimensions: 55 x 46 cm without its frame and 72 x 63 cm with its original gilded wooden frame (a few accidents to the frame).
