César Baldaccini, known as César, is a sculptor from Marseille, born in January 1921 at Belle de Mai. From an early age, he dreamed of becoming a sculptor, and tried his hand at discipline by using scrap metal, bolts, screws, tubes... At 14, he was already taking evening classes at the Beaux-Arts from Marseille. Between 1935 and 1937, he trained there, and in 1937 won three prizes: engraving, drawing and architecture. In 1945, after the war, he joined the Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he became a professor in 1970. César was one of the members of the new realists, a movement born in 1960 and imposing its trademark: compression with a hydraulic press. Among his greatest achievements, we find the very famous bronze trophy of the Cesar ceremony of French cinema, to whom we owe his name, and which has made French actors dream since 1976, but also many "Thumbs" scattered all over the country.
