"Rare Solomonic Column In Golden Wood From The End Of The XVI Eme Century"
An architectural element but also a very beautiful sculpture in gilded wood from the Haute Epoque.this column dating from the end of the 16th century is a rare example of a Solomonic column in such dimensions.
Entirely carved in wood then gilded, it consists of a barrel-shaped base decorated with a toddler's face in high relief and large floral motifs:
a carved decoration in the "candelieri" spirit very fashionable during the Renaissance.
above the column is adorned with large hollow sculpted twists winding around the shaft typical of these Solomonic columns.
a finely worked and openwork Corinthian capital crowns the whole.
this large column (184 cm) has retained its original gilding, revealing the plate in places, a beautiful Armenian red which contrasts nicely with the gilding. At the back some walnut grafts visible on the photos for consolidation and stability of the whole.
to see these restorations well, I left them raw, with the possibility of patinating them in the workshop.
a metal rod attached to the top facilitates transport and installation.
a rare example of a large, early Solomonic column in gilded wood.
height: 184 cm,
diameter at the base 27 cm.
