"Henri-georges Charrier : "study For The Fresco Of Fecamp""
Henri-Georges Charrier (1859-1950): “Saint Jean et Saint Pierre”, pencil on paper 62 X 46 cm stretched on cardboard 82 X 66 cm by a glued marie-louise. Titled, signed, located “Eglise Saint Etienne à Fécamp” and dated 1886. “Brut de grenier”, accidents, photo-oxidation, dirt and heavy foxing. Despite its condition, this important work, preparatory to the right part of the fresco, is fascinating in more than one respect: the attitude of Saint Peter who practically supports the young Saint John, the manifest influence of his Master John -Paul Laurens, the low angle view that mixes us with the spectators seeing the three Saints appear on the square, all this lets us predict what this drawing will look like once restored. The author, son of Pierre Edouard Charrier, worked a lot on the decoration of churches, but was also an important member of the School of Crozant alongside Guillaumin, Detroy or Alluaud.
