The kittens
Watercolor
Pupil of Eugène Delacroix, who financed his works, and of Paul Delaroche, Louis-Eugène Lambert specialized in the representation of cats and dogs. He made his debut at the Salon of 1847 and took the nickname "Lambert of the cats" or "Raphael of the cats". His paintings enjoyed great commercial success1. Friend of Maurice Sand, in 1844, he moved to Nohant with George Sand. Originally only supposed to stay there for a month, he stayed there for 14 years and took an active part in the Nohant theatre.
