"Small Secretaire Bonheur Du Jour, In Rio Rosewood Veneer, Napoleon III Period - Nineteenth"
Bonheur du Jour from the Napoleon III period, with marquetry of various woods on a Rio Rosewood veneer background. This Small Lady's Furniture, although in one piece, is by definition composed of two elements: a Desk Table, topped with Tiers. The upper part offers in its center a small drawer with a concave front, on which sits a Mirror, itself crowned with a Bronze Ribbon in the spirit of Louis XVI. Its glass with bevelled edges is surrounded by a chiseled brass rod. On either side, two small Showcases lined with Amaranth-coloured Velvet and glass shelves complete this Happiness of the Day. Their tops are embellished with perforated brass Galleries. The doors, with ornaments similar to those of the Mirror, have working locks and their respective keys. We will appreciate the marquetry of flowers and foliage, in wood and various colors, present on both sides of each of these showcases. The lower part, with a curved body in both directions, forms a Small Secretary. Its scalloped belt, its pot-bellied sides and the sloping flap through which it opens feature many Decors reminiscent of those described above. Once unlocked, this writing space reveals a niche below which are aligned three small drawers with pull buttons. There is also a compartment made accessible by a sliding top. The work area offered by the lid thus unfolded is covered with an original green felt, lined with a black and gold frieze. Note the discreet but nevertheless omnipresence of Lemon tree fillets, forming frames around the marquetry, drawer fronts, glass doors... The whole rests on four high legs with a pronounced curve, adorned with Bronze Chutes at the front. and finished with four cut-out sabots. This gracious Bonheur du Jour can be assigned various functions depending on the place chosen for it: small desk in a living room, chest of drawers or dressing table in a bedroom, display cabinet in a common room... Whatever its destination, it will charm women with the finesse and elegance of its design, while men can only approve of its refinement. ******** Period: 19th century Perfect condition after restoration in our workshop.
