Armchairs Stamped M. Cresson – 18th Century

Beautiful pair of large armchairs with flat backs called ''à la Reine'', carved on beech, from the 18th century and stamped M. Cresson for Michel Cresson, received Master on August 30, 1740.
They rest on nicely arched and molded feet with small windings.
The crosspieces as well as the backrests are elegantly scalloped and finely carved with flowers and foliage.
The armrests are ''whiplashed'' and accommodate cuffs.
The blue velvet upholstery is in very good condition.

Michel Cresson, brother of Louis Cresson, also distinguished himself in the manufacture of luxury seats.
Born in 1709, he acquired the master's degree on August 30, 1740 and directly succeeded Louis Cresson as juror-carpenter from 1750 to 1752.
His workshop was located in the same rue de Cléry, under the sign of Gros-Chapelet.
After the death of his brother, he was called upon to provide works for the furnishing of the Prince of Condé at the Palais-Bourbon and the Château de Chantilly.
