"Painting With Toy Spaniels, R. Levieux, Macaw And Fruits (nîmes 1613 Rome 169"
Reflections at frame height by shooting

Tableau with grapes, exotic fruits and the lively presence of two toy spaniels and a scarlet macaw. The fruits, on a stylish entablature and at the foot of it, seem protected by the beautiful Ara with its red plumage spread out, ready to cry or melt in front of one of the trained spaniels.
Two toy spaniels comfortably seated on a rich cushion, one lying down resting quietly, the other trained and tense in support visibly gives voice in the direction of the parrot.
Painting attributed without reserve to Reynaud Levieux French painter born in Nîmes in 1613 died in 1699 in Rome; first pupil of his father Jean Levieux whom he left to go to Rome with Nicolas Poussin in order to perfect and free his talent there; he is a painter noted for his copies of the great masterpieces commissioned from his master's studio and for his personal works; he left Rome in 1643 to return to practice in the south of France in Nîmes, then moved to Montpellier 4 years later, worked in the south with Mignard, Nocret, Chaperon, Errard and the Mayor; continuing his career, he settled in the city of Avignon in 1649 and in Villeneuve les Avignon in 1651 where Nicolas Mignard exercised at this time, the latter will go to Paris around 1660 at the request of Louis XIV who had appreciated the painter during of his trip. Reynaud Levieux then finds a great place in Avignon and Aix en Provence.
The considerable work of this painter, with majestically painted mythological, historical, religious themes, today exhibited or hung in major renowned places in France and abroad, results for the whole of the work of commissions from powerful figures of the time, of the Church and of influential religious congregations; R. Levieux satisfied regionally a large noble and bourgeois clientele and produced plans and decorations for large private mansions in Avignon and Aix en Provence. In 1669 he left France for Rome, worked with Nicolas Poussin, continued his work and ended his life there in 1699.
Painting in perfect cleaned condition, formerly relined, in an intermediate entourage with the frame, called marie-louise, dark in color in harmony with the background color of the paint. Painting in an exceptional 17th century frame in carved gilded wood with acanthus and flower motifs characteristic of the time, frame in very good condition.
