Blanche Morizet was born on May 23, 1878 in Achères (Yvelines), at the home of her grandfather Jean-Baptiste Rehoboam; his father, Jules Morizet, was employed at the central halls of Paris. It is by taking the diminutive of the name of her maternal family that she forms her artist name with which she will sign her first works: "Roboa". Attracted to painting at a very young age, she was noticed by a critic from Le Figaro who described her as an “exquisite artist with subtle and refined colours”. Indeed, a learned colorist, she expresses herself as well in pastel as in oil paint. If the former underline the softness of the faces, the padded atmosphere of the young women captured in moments of intimacy, the use of oil contrasts above all with its pronounced taste for matter in a “tawny” spirit.
