Jean Austruy (1910-1990)
A graduate of the School of Decorative Arts and Fine Arts in Paris, Jean Austruy settled in Saint-Marcellin in Isère, and taught drawing for nine years in this city as well as at the School of Fine Arts and Industrial Arts in Grenoble. At the same time, he began ceramics first in his garage, then in a workshop which he had built in 1947 in order to increase his production, demand being high after the war. His wife Jacqueline, also a Fine Arts graduate, helps him in his production. They hire employees, and focus on the quality of their production.
