Alfred Lombard (1884-1973) Design project for the 1937 International Exhibition, gouache, 25 x 20 cm, annotated on the back.Born in Marseille, Alfred Lombard took part in the Fauve adventure from 1907 with Girieud, Verdilhan and Camoin. He participated in the artistic Provençal Renaissance with Girieud, organizing the Salon de Mai in 1912 and 1913. In 1914, he exhibited at the Galerie Rosenberg then at Druet. From 1920 he devoted himself to great decoration with orders for the "Atlantique" and "Normandie" liners in collaboration with the architect Jean Patout and for the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition and the 1937 International Exhibition. Lombard will continue his pictorial research all his life as a painter, showing little of his work. Today he reveals an extraordinary richness and diversity.
