"Hippolyte Benjamin Adam - The Rescue"
Hippolyte Benjamin ADAM Paris, 1808 – 1853 Oil on canvas 54 x 73 cm (61 x 80 cm with the frame) Signed lower left “h. Adam» 19th century wooden frame Hippolyte Adam is an academically trained painter of seascapes and portraits. He was a pupil of Langlois and Paul Delaroche. He exhibited during the romantic period at the Paris Salon between 1833 and 1841 (“Les Reîtres”, “The Chartreux in prayer”, “Fish market in Marseille”, “La Récréation”...). His seascapes are very beautiful, with a lot of movement, beautiful sea colors and full of picturesque details. In our painting, in rough seas a sailing boat tows another sailing boat in distress while a steamer passes by in the distance!
