"Pewter Wine Pitcher - Paris, 18th Century"
PITCHER with pewter shoulder, plinth foot, goblet in straight heel and S-shaped thumb with molded crest.Unidentified maker's mark: CM monogram in a hexagonal cartouche.
Countermark of gauging at the interior bottom: MD (to the measure of Saint Denis).
Height: 26.5cm.
PARIS, 18th century.
This maker's mark is not identified; four masters are candidates for its attribution: Claude MULOT received master in 1717, Claude MAGNY received master in 1725, Charles MAUCOMBLE quoted in 1725 and Claude MUTINOT received master in 1725. It could also be a master exercising "outside the walls ".
The countermark of gauging, the typology of the piece and its hinge with five knuckle, clearly situate it in Paris.
The cover has been replaced, repair very well executed and almost undetectable.
