An impressive Dutch parquet clock with an oak case veneered with walnut bramble, signed on the F. VAN CEULEN UTRECHT time turn. The hood of this clock has a broken arch upper pediment with a very fine elaborate chamfer functioning as sound frets, as well as a prominent asymmetrical carved ornament. It is surmounted by three beautiful gilded wooden statuettes representing a figure of Chronos flanked by two figures of Mars. The streamlined door of the chest is decorated with rosewood inlays and features a lenticle with a classic brass outline in the shape of the goddess Europa on her bull, through which one can see the movement of the pendulum. The impressive base is reinforced by buttress-shaped angles and rests on ball feet.
The superb arched brass dial has a Roman and silver Arabic hour turn, a small turn of the seconds above the case and a date window above the VI. To the left and right of the middle is a counter of the month indicating the month, a symbolic representation of the month and the number of days in the month, as well as a counter of the day indicating the day of the week and a symbolic representation of the day. The phases of the moon are indicated in the arc, as well as high water time in Amsterdam, which was important for traders in the 18th century. The time is indicated by a pair of blued steel hands on the silver hour turn, which is surrounded by golden cast brass spandrels in the corners representing the four seasons. The eight-day weight-driven movement consists of heavy and striking rains, as well as an alarm. The cog has an anchor escapement and a seconds balance. The shift ringing train shows the entire hours and half hours on two bells of different height (Dutch ringing) and the quarters at once. It is set by a rack and pinion mechanism and can be repeated at will by pulling a cord behind the door. The weight-controlled alarm is set by a silver disc behind the hands, the tail of the hour hand indicating -There are functions such as seconds, minutes, hours and only the month - indicator function day and night - alarm function - beat the shutters every 15 minutes - energy reserved 8 days - The moving train permanently represents the prosperity of the Netherlands.
