The vase which I am offering does not have a base and was made like this. I have examined the inside of the base and there is no sign that it ever had a base.The vase in the link below did not have a base either and Sothebys say in their condition report" The base of the vase has been hollowed out" indicating that their vase had no base either. Also I have had another example of this type of vase with no base not so long ago. I do not know their exact function but it has been suggested that they are to hold incense sticks.
